The school community will develop the whole child by working together to create an environment that is accepting of all students where each is academically enriched, and encouraged to be a life-long learner.
Welcome to the Middle School! We hope that you will find it a challenging, enriching environment in which to learn, and grow. We hope to create a place where you can explore new subjects and participate in extra curricular activities such as clubs and sports. Students attending the Middle School are ethnically perse and bring with them experiences and unique cultures from around the world.
Our Middle School educates some 750 students in grades 6, 7, and 8. Students in grades six, seven and eight are assigned to a teaching team which consists of four core subject teachers (Math, Science, English Language Arts, and Social Studies), an ENL provider or a special education teacher, and most importantly; approximately 70 to 100 peers. This smaller grade grouping allows students and faculty to work more closely together and provides the opportunity to more effectively meet the needs of each student. Average class size in grades 6,7, and 8 is between fourteen and eighteen students per classroom.
The athletic facilities are second to none in the region. Our gymnasium is quite large and is known to host Section III events. Our Middle School also houses an Olympic size swimming pool. The outdoor physical education and recreational facilities are a matter of District and community pride.
Each classroom has Clear Touch boards or Smart Technology to assist and support our learning needs. We are currently 1:1 using chromebooks. All computers are connected to the District's Local Area Network and the regional BOCES and can access the Internet. The Board of Education and the community have made a tremendous investment in computer technology for our schools and this is very evident in the integration of computer technology into every facet of our academic programs. Considerable investment has also been made in training the staff to use and incorporate this technology into their day to day lessons.
Other specialized classrooms such as our technology labs house a CAD/CAM computer lab, the Family and Consumer Science classrooms are state of the art and have wonderful kitchen facilities. There are multiple science labs, a choral room, band room, orchestra room, and multiple art rooms located in various portions of the building.
The academic program for the Middle School is delivered through an eight period day. We bookend our instructional day with am WIN and pm WIN. These twenty minute blocks are essential for our students to have time to check and connect with educators they see throughout the day. As you familiarize yourself with our building, our teachers will assist in getting you from from your special area classes (art, music, physical education, foreign language and lunch) so you needn't worry about getting lost or being late to a class. Our instructional week is actually six days since the Middle School operates on a six day cycle (but we don't come to school on weekends). The curriculum at our Middle School is a mixture of both challenging and creative, using NYS guidance and modeling “Best Practices” .
