Middle School Credit Requirements for Grades 7 & 8

Per New York State requirements, all students shall be provided instruction in the following categories, by the end of grade eight:

- English Language Arts, 2 units;- Social Studies, 2 units;- Science, 2 units;- Mathematics, 2 units;- Technology Education, 1 unit;- Home and Career Skills (Family and Consumer Sciences), 3/4 unit;- Health Education, 1/2 unit;- Visual Arts, 1/2 unit;- Music, 1/2 unit;- Library and Information Skills;- Language Other Than English;- Career Development/Occupational Studies;- Physical Education, equivalent to every other day\ \ Students may take a full year (1 unit), half year (1/2 unit) or 10 week (1/4 unit) class in either seventh or eighth grade to fulfill the above requirements. Students failing more than two major subjects will be required to attend summer school and be successful in order to be promoted to the next grade level.
