Middle School Swim Class Procedural Change
Middle School Swim Class Procedural Change
01/18/2019
A procedural change has been enacted in the middle school physical education program effective January 16, 2019, which deals with the swimming unit and classes. This was as a result of a parental complaint made regarding the practice of having students walk the pool deck when medical or related circumstances render them unable to swim. The resolution is to have any student who presents with a medical or related circumstance during a pool-based lesson go to a scheduled study hall for that class period and make up the swimming class at a later time in order to garner the credit for that class period. This resolution addresses the needs of our students and maintains the importance of learning to swim and water safety instruction in our middle school physical education curriculum. The district is truly sorry that any parents, and most of all, our students, had to experience anything that left them feeling singled out or unfairly treated.
